The Pine Park stud was founded in 1974 by Denis Dobson with the purchase of several half-breed heifers PTIC from the Valmont stud at Whitemore, belonging to Lyell Stuart, a founding member of the Australian Charolais Society.

AI sires have been used extensively since the foundation of the stud and maintain a very important role to this day. In 1978 the first of two pure-breed bulls arrived from New Zealand. In the early days females were purchased from studs throughout Tasmania. Throughout the years, bulls have been purchased from Mandalong, Brookfield (New Zealand), Airlie, Relbia Park, Woodlands, Sugarloaf and Vernola studs.

The Pine Park stud is based on breeding sound functional cattle, with emphasis being placed on major traits including high fertility, compact productive udders, calving ease, excellent feet and legs, and all over structural correctness. The cattle in which we are breeding at Pine Park are sound, early maturing, soft, easy fleshing, easy calving and predominantly polled cattle with excellent growth rates.

Throughout the years, Pine Park has exhibited cattle at carcase competitions with considerable success and also in the showring with some very noteable performances, including Pine Park Nolette, who won supreme interbreed female at Launceston Royal Show three years in a row from 1987-1989, and more recently, Pine Park Yab-a-dab-a-doo who won supreme interbreed beef bull at Launceston Royal and Hobart Royal Shows in 2005.
